Frequently Asked Questions
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle energy healing practice that promotes relaxation, stress reduction and overall well-being.
The word Reiki comes from Japanese and translated as “universal life energy.” During a Reiki session, the practitioner channels this energy through light touch or hands held just above the body to support the body’s natural ability to restore balance.
Many clients seek Reiki for stress relief, emotional support, relaxation and a greater sense of connection to themselves.
Who Can Receive Reiki?
Reiki is suitable for people of all ages and stages of life.
Adults, children, seniors and even animals may benefit from Reiki.
For clients under 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent and attend the session.
What Happens During a Reiki Session?
You’ll remain fully clothed and comfortably rest on a treatment table.
The session begins with a brief conversation about how you’re feeling and what you’d like support with.
During the Reiki portion of the session, I gently place my hands on or slightly above specific areas of the body. The experience is quiet, peaceful, and deeply relaxing.
Many clients describe the session as feeling like a meditation they didn’t have to work for.
Will I Be Touched?
Reiki traditionally involves light, non-invasive touch. But it is not massage.
Your comfort is always the priority.
If you prefer not to be touched, Reiki can be provided with hands hovering just above the body. The effectiveness of the session is not dependent on physical contact.
Do I Need to Believe in Reiki for It to Work?
No. You do not need any particular spiritual belief system to receive Reiki. Reiki works whether you “believe” in it or not.
Many clients come simply because they are seeking relaxation, stress relief or support during a difficult time.
Approach the experience with an open mind and notice how you feel afterward.
What Might I Experience During a Session?
Every experience is unique. Some clients notice:
- Deep relaxation
- Warmth or coolness
- Tingling sensations
- Emotional release
- Muscle relaxation
- Mental clarity
- A feeling of lightness
- Falling asleep
- Increased awareness of thoughts or emotions
You may experience many sensations, very few sensations or simply a deep sense of calm. All experiences are valid.
What If I Can’t Relax?
That’s completely okay. Many people arrive with racing thoughts, stress or anxiety.
You do not have to “do Reiki correctly” or enter a meditative state. Simply showing up is enough.
The session creates space for your nervous system to calm naturally.
Can Reiki Help with Anxiety and Stress?
Many clients seek Reiki to support emotional well-being during periods of stress, anxiety, burnout, grief and life transitions.
While Reiki is not a treatment for any medical or mental health condition, clients often report feeling calmer, more centered and better able to cope with life’s challenges following a session.
What Is Chakra Balancing?
Chakras energy centers within the body.
During a chakra balancing session, Reiki is used to help restore energetic harmony and support overall well-being.
Many clients choose chakra balancing when they feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected or “stuck.”
What Is Distance Reiki?
Distance Reiki allows clients to receive Reiki remotely from the comfort of their own home.
A distance session follows the same intention and energetic principles as an in-person session. We begin with a brief check-in and conclude with a discussion about your experience and any insights that arise.
Many clients find distance Reiki to be just as relaxing, effective and meaningful as an in-person session.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Every person’s needs are unique. Some clients book Reiki occasionally for relaxation and self-care. Others choose a series of sessions when navigating significant life changes, stress, burnout, grief, or ongoing emotional challenges.
We’ll discuss your goals and determine what feels most supportive for you.
What Should I Do Before My Session?
To help you get the most from your experience:
- Wear comfortable clothing
- Stay hydrated
- Arrive a few minutes early
- Avoid rushing if possible
- Set a simple intention if you’d like
There is no special preparation required.
What Should I Do After My Session?
Many clients enjoy:
- Drinking extra water
- Resting if needed
- Journaling thoughts or insights
- Spending time in nature
- Taking the remainder of the day gently
Give yourself permission to notice how you’re feeling without judgment.
Is Reiki a Religion?
No. Reiki is not affiliated with any religion and does not require any specific beliefs.
People of all faiths, spiritual traditions and backgrounds can receive Reiki.
Is Reiki Safe?
Reiki is considered a gentle, non-invasive complementary wellness practice.
It can generally be received alongside other wellness practices and healthcare treatments.
